Dogs for Rehoming

Below are some of the dogs that College Garth currently have for rehoming. We do aim to keep this page as accurate as possible, not all dogs will go on here as they will be reserved quickly - please telephone us for the most up-to-date information as the dogs change daily. Telephone 01509-842327. Rescue don't breed.

You will need to pass a home check before you can have a dog, having a securely fenced garden is usually important, if you live in rented accommodation you will need a letter from your landlord stating you can have a dog.

So many Staffies in rescues! Over breeding of Staffie types is now a major problem for rescues, indiscriminate & overbreeding for cash is just pumping out too many dogs! Healthy dogs especially Staffie's are being put to sleep everyday because rescues simply have no room for them! Please consider an older dog rather than a puppy and save a life so easily lost.

Please remember many of our dogs are strays and arrive to us with no information about them, even disclaimers can be left with false information. The kennel staff assess the dogs while they are in the kennels with the help of our dog trainer and walkers. However, dogs can change so new owners need to be prepared to let their new dog settle iin slowly and be aware that they might behave differently from the kennels, they may have been abused, spoilt or just used to a very differnet way of life before you. A new home can be upsetting for some dogs who will need time to settle and trust you before their true character can come out. Accidents such as messing inside and chewing may happen and owners should not leave a new dog with expensive items untill they know they are fine to do so - prevention is always better!

OLIVER
Boxer cross dog.
Around 1-2 years old.
Returned on 9/8/10 after being in a home for a couple of months.
Oliver  needs an experienced owner to this breed or larger sized dogs. At kennels we have had no problems with him-he walked out with other dogs, walked well on the lead and enjoys playing fetch. However in his new home he was not as good with all other dogs he met & didnt really like the 2 he went ot live with even tho he had been ok meeting them at the kennels.

He had excitable bursts of energy in his home. No kids.
Please ask to see Oliver outside his kennel as he is not showing himself off very well as he doesn't like kennel life.

ARCHIE    URGENTLY NEEDS REHOMING
cross bred dog.
Around 2ish years old.
Found as a stray on 7/6/10.

Hoby & Archie                                                                         Archie & Fizz

archie & murphy
Stressed in kennels & needs to keep being walked with the other dogs to help keep him settled, he is ok once he has met a dog but will bark at dogs he hasnt said hello to.

He went out with 4 dogs to day & was walked with an 'owned dog' who he loved-he got a little frisky & was reprimanded by the other dog which did not bother him. Is only being walked by experianced walkers to stop this behaviour but needs to get rehomed asap. He will need a home with no young kids & an experianced owner poss another dog altho could probably do with castration to help chill him out as he is a lively little thing.
Went on staffie walk with about 15 other dogs & was a very good boy, is walked in a halti, he needs someone who is firm but kind with him
Likes to play & is an inteligent, fun dog who needs his energy channeled into something like agility
Urgently needs rehoming or fostering as he can not cope with kennel life & is flying at his kennel door when people pass & putting them off him-  as you can see from photos he is a lovely dog once out of the kennels & loves other dogs & people-he is just not showing this when people look at him. Very intelligent, energetic, sensitive little chap
no young kids or cats
Brodie & Archie
We have found out that archie lived locally & was not very well looked after in that he was hit & shouted at, then dumped, which is why he is v nervous & upset in the kennels, he just needs a chance with an experianced owner who will care for him properly

ROXY

Collie cross Springer bitch.
Around 2 years old.
People told us they found her as a stray on 20/8/10 but they did try to disclaim the dog to us earlier?!
We were told that she is very nervous and was mistreated by a man. She is very scared around kennel staff esp men. She also snapped at a child

TIKKA

Tikka-female American Bulldog bitch.
Around 4-5 years old.
Disclaimed on 25/7/10 after being in a home for a couple of years but has been passed around.
Tikka can be a timid dog and needs a quiet, kind home. She is not suitable to live with children as she is scared of them. We have been told she is fine with some dogs but she does get over the top with most dogs. She is microchipped and spayed. She is looking for an understanding but patient owner who would give her the love which she needs.

Tikka is pictured on an afternoon out with one of our walkers here's what she said about her- 'She is still a bit nervous but OK once she knows you. She is just so adorable, loves her tickles and cuddles, gives a paw for treats, will sit and wait and does not pull on the lead. She is the gentlest of dogs and has a real fascination of boats – kept trying to go visiting the moored boats. An absolutely gorgeous girl.'

GEORGE

George-Male brindle staffie x, about 3yrs old. Vaccinated by Colin Ward. Castrated.Found as a stray on 1/12/09. Friendly, large Staffie, loves people, good to walk ok other dogs, but doesn't like them in his face so prob only dog or possibly with female, full of character, really nice boy, no kids.
Has had part of his tail cut of due to injuring it while kenneled.
George was in a foster home with a very experienced dog trainer (oh dear George!) where he gained lots of training. George has been doing agility off-lead & is very good! He also walked out every day with Anne's 3 other dogs & any others that need to go out & is making lots of new mates. Came to our agility where he did all obstacles at top speed with a jump pole in his mouth at same time!, he is a strong, energetic staffie & needs an experinaced owner with this sort of dog- a home where he could carry on with his agility would be perfect
Unfortunatly another dog at the kennels attacked him & he had to come back after a fight, but he did not start this fight & is now v sad to be back here.

Milo-JRT. Male

loving, friendly dog, good people & dogs, needs very secure fencing or kennel & run when left on own outside.
Easy to walk, happy little chap

MILO
Jack Russell dog.
Around 2-3 years old.
Returned on 13/8/10 after being in a home for two weeks.
We have been told that Milo was weeing in the house but this may have been due to another full male living in the same house! He would benefit from being castrated. He was great with there 6 young children-a great family pet. He was not good with the cat and kept chasing it. We know that Milo is an escapee so he will be in need of a secure garden with high fencing. He is microchipped.

Bosh.
Staffie dog.
Around 1-2 years old.
Back on 28/7/10 due to running off out the front door if he got the chance.
George is a very friendly dog, is good with other dogs and lived with a Jack Russell for 2 weeks. He was clean in the house, travelled well in the car and wasn't a problem in the house. He does not like cats and will jump up at horses. He is a dog which you need to shut in a room before opening the front door. He is strong on the lead but is only young. He is microchipped and castrated. Would make anyone a fantastic dog.

Davey, male staffie

Davey out with 2 other male dogs

on 29/4/10. Around 8-10 years old.

Brodie-
Staffie cross Whippet bitch. One year old.(came in 21/10/09) Friendly, loving girl. Found as a stray. She is lively &  walks with other dogs but may be better as an only dog.
Due to her boisterous behaviour she will better suited in a home older children.

Poppy
8 month old Collie x Staffie female Came to us on 31/7/10-us being the fourth home already!
She has been vaccinated and microchipped
lovely & friendly but has not has any proper training & so is excitable & mouthy still, needs firm but kind owner to give loving home with obediance training.

No young kids due to mouthing & no cats, has lived with another dog, but does play very energetically with them!
Poppy has alot off love to offer in a home that provides her with proper exercise & boundries which she does not seem to have had so far.
Poppy has been passed around people who wanted to use her for breeding ( even tho she is not even a pedigree) she deserves better than this.

MURPHY

Murphy & Archie
Murphy

Staffie dog. Around 4 years old. Found as a stray on 20/3/10. Murphy is microchipped but the details have not been kept up to date. He walks better on a harness, has walked out with other dogs & seems fine & interested in playing- Friendly & nice dog,has been castrated, kindly paid for by Val Mullins a HDR volunteer.

Murphy went on  a extra long walk to the river yesterday with one of our volunteers.
We put factor 50 sunscreen on his ears as it was a bit sunny for his thin fur. He was as good as gold and is a lovely little staffie who needs to put on some weight! he was very well behaved with other dogs, cyclists and walkers (I had him on a 16ft extending lead) and we didn't need to pull him in at all. He heard the rustle of a treat bag, sat and took the treats gently without snatching all. He met one of my cats and just looked at him and wagged his tail. He likes the car and sat on my lap a very happy dog.
